Congress Wills On Union Curbs
Congressional supporters of organized labor say resolving the maritime strike blocks drastic anti labor legislation this year. Some lawmakers favor a modified Truman emergency strike control bill while administration officials express relief at the turn in industrial relations. Rep. Biemiller notes settlement removes ammunition for those seeking to curb labor rights and believes passage of the emergency measure can be prevented. The bill would compel union leaders to order workers back in government seized industries and has passed both chambers, awaiting House action.
