Hawthorne named Palo Verde principal succeeding own successor

Allan S. Hawthorne a deputy superintendent since 1970 will leave that post to take Palo Verde High School principal duties on July 1 He steps into the vacancy created by Conrad Quenelle who had been Palo Verde principal since Hawthorne joined Tucson District 1 in 1965 The move includes a nearly 10000 salary cut to 28727 while Quenelle retires and other principal appointments are announced with some board dissent

Roof crew driver cited after hot tar wagon crashes injuring man

Deputies charged El Pueblo Roofing Co. employee Santiago Breay 23 with operating an unsafe vehicle after his hot tar wagon broke loose from a faulty hitch and smashed into Ted Subo 37. Subo suffered critical burns over 45 percent of his body. Fernando Morales 47 helped pull him from the wreck.
