Soviets claim underground nuclear blasts boost oil flow
Deputy Oil Minister Sabit Orudzhev told the 8th World Oil Congress that two small underground nuclear explosions in the Soviet Union safely expanded cracks in oil strata and increased oil flow with no radioactive fallout. He cited 1,000 meter well depth and noted several days before production could resume. He warned about 3 billion tons remains globally untapped. Another minister said the USSR is improving gasoline quality to meet rising auto output.
