Amendment Proposed For Retirement At 72
Senator Jack Miller of Iowa proposed a constitutional amendment to set mandatory retirement for all congressmen and federal judges at 72. The plan, with a partial grandfather clause, would force 17 senators to forgo reelection and seven to retire after next year. Miller would still serve two full terms plus four more years before retirement. He argued it would improve Congress and the judiciary and ensure younger voices influence government.
