Loss of thrust sinks Pershing on test flight
World news report a Pershing missile failed to reach its 150 mile target after lift off from Cape Canaveral with the second stage misfiring sending the weapon into the Atlantic Ocean. Summer Program Offers Recreation Across Pima County
Pima County’s 13th annual summer recreation program runs from Monday through mid August at 15 centers with athletics, games, story hours, movies, crafts, dance and special activities. Director Gilbert Ray notes the program extends after annexations reduced centers, and highlights supervised playgrounds, first aid training for 30+ student supervisors, and activities at schools with libraries and gyms.

The Tucson area centers will offer pet shows bike contests ping pong tournaments and fitness contests with many instructors high school and university students. Fourteen youths were trained as playground leaders and centers operate at Harelson Davidson Homer Davis Laguna Mission View Ocina Smith Steele Tanque Verde Wetmore White Wrightstown and outlying sites Silverbell Marana and Ajo. Most centers run 8 30 to 11 30 a m Monday through Friday with some afternoon sessions 2 to 5 p m. The program ends August 17.
