More Cases For Division 2 Pleas Court Change Sought

Phoenix news reports that state lawmakers seek amendments to routing rules to shift more appeals into Division 2 of the State Court of Appeals. Through April, 298 new appeals filed across divisions left Division 2 with far fewer than Division 1 and the Supreme Court, highlighting an imbalance and a backlog as backroom figures caution timing. Chief Justice Loma E. Lockwood backs statutory changes to equalize caseloads, while administrative director Marvin Linner notes early operation limits. District 1 covers Maricopa and surrounding counties. Division 2 includes Pima and several others.
