Residents sue to block proposed Interstate 710 freeway

City residents filed a special action in Superior Court to halt the Interstate 710 project. Joseph San Martin and Julie Isherwood claim Councilman Emmett McLoughlin had a conflict of interest and should have recused himself from the vote to include the freeway in the Regional Comprehensive Transportation plan. They seek to void the city council decision and contend the plan could force home takings and divide the South Side area with a $36 million project needing federal approval by July 1.
