Legislature Gains and Losses in Tucson Area Policy
The legislature approved measures aiding Tucson and Pima County while facing defeats elsewhere. Home rule hopes for counties advanced to the House before dying. UA funding rose modestly, hospital money fell, and a bus mass transit contract bill won approval. Charter cities escaped some bid rules, and several districts gained or faced tax and exemption changes. Public education funding and school reorganization faced notable shifts.

Strike force plan targets major drug dealers with cross‑jurisdictional teams
Senator DeConcini outlines a new strike force to fight narcotics, willing to lose 5000 to gain a 100000 deal, focus on large dealers moving heroin and cocaine. The unit will include trial and field lawyers, about 15 agents, and cost around 180000 for vehicles and gear. Efforts include cooperation with Mexico and potential expansion across the state. Colorado and New Mexico show parallel initiatives.
