Pima County 1961 Traffic Toll Raised to 26
Pima County's 1961 traffic death toll was revised to 26, up two deaths. Ernie James Childs 24 of Ajo died when his car left State Route 85, struck a power pole near Ajo at 5 10 a.m. The three passengers were seriously injured. Jose Juan 61 of Topawa Village died in a March crash on a dirt road north of Topawa.

University Grants Award to Noted Alumni in Mining Field
An University of Arizona alumnus, John W. F. Dulles, honored for achievements as mining executive and metallurgical engineer, received the 75th Anniversary Medallion of Merit during a Tucson campus visit. He earned his BS in metallurgical engineering in 1943 and plans to return to the U of A this fall.

Dieting U S Sets Candy Record At $3 Billion Mark
Douglas S. Steinberg of Chicago president of the National Confectioners Association said at the annual convention that U S candy sales topped the three billion dollar mark for the first time in history. Americans averaged 17 pounds of candy per person last year though dietetic candies contributed little to overall consumption.

City Files Four More Broadway Condemnation Suits
The City of Tucson filed four additional condemnation suits in Superior Court over the Broadway widening project between Alvernon Way and Columbus Boulevard. Total suits rise to 14. defendants include City Van Building Corp Geor gia Loughrin Edwin Eric Brooks and Paul H Williams. The city seeks to condemn property on both sides of Broadway and ascertain parcel values.
