More than 1,600 physicians and dentists responded to a recent appeal for medical volunteers for the armed services. Maj. A. V. Watts of Arizona's recruiting service cites an initial promising turnout with 150 pledging service for the coming year.
Armando Pain and John Montano waived preliminary hearing in justice court and were held to answer in superior court on a burglary charge. Each was set at 1000 dollars bond. They allegedly entered Charles Richards home on East 10th Street rear Thursday night and stole a 32 caliber Savage pistol. Police recovered the gun Friday after Pain’s arrest and he implicated Montano.
The record lists a Fox Lyric schedule titled Last for Gold with show entries including Bride of Vengeance and Idol of the Crowd with various times and codes. Services for Staff Sgt. John Harold Larson are set for 3 p.m. Monday at Community Congregational church Tombstone with Rev. George R. Bennett and the American Legion. Larson, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. J Edward Larson, moved to Tombstone in 1940 and served at Ft Huachuca before Davis Monthan and overseas. He is Tombstone’s first war dead to be returned for burial.
Lillian Cohn of 43 N Tucson bird filed a bankruptcy petition in the U S district court here. She lists assets of 3343.59 and debts of 9192.69.
The Tucson civil service commission ordered permanent dismissal of Seymour Ryan from the police department for drinking and sleeping on duty. Ryan denied sleeping, citing a sinus condition, while City Personnel Director Albert Hesselberg noted he may appeal to the superior court, though reversals require procedural errors.
The Saturday Morning Musical Club announces its 1949 50 season opening December 15 with Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. Manager Elisabeth Healy also lists DePaul Infantry Chorus February 14 Jesus Sanroma February 14 and Poulenc with Bernac in March 1950. Tickets go on sale in September.
