Washington June 11 Government experts warned labor management talks over the next 60 days could determine the nation’s economy. They cited major anticipated strikes by 1.5 million workers on July 15 and 75,000 shipping employees plus 450,000 coal miners set to strike next week.
Everett Miller of Sacramento and 33 other Flying Farmers departed Tucson Friday morning in private planes bound for Guaymas. Miller’s plane failed to reach Hermosillo or Guaymas, triggering uncertainty over a search as authorities weigh cross border action and sufficiency of local search capability.
Tucson business leader Roy Drachman and State Senator William F. Kimball urged a uniform rise in assessed valuations to ease high local taxes. Kimball criticized last session’s failed state wide revaluation bill, noting it would have funded mine and utility property assessment.

Presidential Assistant David K. Niles is named in Judith Coplon espionage case records. An FBI report says Niles helped obtain a passport for Philip Levy in 1944 despite State Department reluctance over Levy’s suspected spy links. The document notes the passport issued days later while Niles served in FDR White House and later in Truman’s administration.
James D. Warnock of Warren won a 1200 Bender award from the San Francisco art commission for the best beginning of a novel submitted from northern California. He studies for a doctorate at Stanford after earning a BA at the University of Arizona and a journalism major at the local university.
A campus slayer attacked Roy F. Spore Jr. and killed him beside a rain swollen brook near the University of Colorado dorms. Doris Ann Weaver witnessed the assault and identified a tall man with a plaid jacket fleeing the scene. Spore’s body was found later with a fractured skull, autopsy saying drowning caused death. Authorities pursued no clear motive or clue as yet.
President Truman told a gathering of World War I veterans in Little Rock that his address to Congress will frame a strong international proposition urging Europe recovery funding. He described the talk as a major national broadcast and pledged to return to Washington after commemorating park ceremonies honoring veterans.

Reliable sources say the West Berlin railway strike could end early next week paving the way for free transport between West and Soviet sectors. A compromise between the Soviet controlled railway and the non Communist UGO is expected as Big Four ministers urge settlement. Over 15,000 workers walked out on May 20 demanding west mark wages and UGO recognition.
In Pine Bluff Arkansas on June 11 officials repealed seventeen city blue laws at a special meeting easing Sunday restrictions. State laws may still apply though local bakers and vendors faced fines under old rules. City Attorney Bilbott planned to suspend fines and dismiss next week's cases.
Capot won the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park with Ponder second and Palestinian third. Ponder, who won the Kentucky Derby, closed strongly but could not overtake Capot, who also won the Preakness. Ted Atkinson rode Capot for Green Tree Stable in the mile and a half, finishing in 2 30 1 5. Capot paid 13.20 4.90 2.80. Ponder paid 2.60 2.10. Palestinian 2.40 showing.
Dennis Hunt, Santa Cruz and Pima county rancher, was named to the Arizona State Racing commission to succeed the late Wirt Bowman. He will take office July 1 with a term through July 1, 1955, joining members Haskell Beall Thompson Brophy and others as they organize in Phoenix. Bowman died recently after a long public career.
