CAP water costs seen at 40 dollars per acre foot

The Central Arizona Project could supply water for Pima County desert communities for about 40 dollars per acre foot. Quentin Mees told the Tucson Water Advisory Committee that this information, disclosed in Phoenix by Arizona Water Commissioner Wesley Steiner, is based on multiple variables including anticipated contracts for 12 000 acre feet over 50 years and a 2 1/2 cent tax on real property. If the tax rose to 4 cents the price could drop to about 25 dollars per acre foot while a no tax scenario would raise the price to 34 dollars per acre foot. The board took no action and the Tucson advisory panel awaits the engineering report submission to the Pima Association of Governments next Thursday.
