Mayor E. T. Houston urges Tucson voters to approve 10 charter changes and an $850,000 bond for rights of way for a downtown limited access truck freeway. If approved, federal and state aid would fund construction totaling about $5,000,000 to ease downtown congestion and reduce truck accidents.
Six polling sites will open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday for 10 proposed city charter changes and an $850,000 bond for rights of way for a truck route. Taxpayers only may vote on the truck route. any city resident may vote on the charter changes. City Clerk Carl Hitt noted bars may stay open. Polling places include Roosevelt School, Tucson High, Mansfeld Junior High, Sam Hughes School, Tucson Woman's Club, and Safford Junior High.

Votes of 7 to 6 defeated proposals to extend the law as is for one two or three years. Republicans on the committee voted against the measures as the panel considered a house bill to extend the law one year beyond Saturday with changes.
