Sunnyside School Board will meet at 7 30 p m Tuesday in the music room to review a 544 000 bond issue approved earlier this month including 50000 for site purchase. The agenda covers next year budget studies financial reports, zoning of Douglas land, bid openings for supplies, and federal aid status.
Funeral services for Jim C. Shoat will be at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at Bring's Funeral Home. Shoat died May 29 at the Veterans Hospital. He lived at 4068 E Ft Lowell Rd and was a charter member of the Tucson Brethren Church and a World War I veteran. Graveside rites by the American Legion will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park Veterans plot. He leaves wife Ida K. and foster son Joseph Toppell, sister Dora Womack, and brothers Johnson and Joseph.
A two section shopping center costing between 300000 and 400000 is planned at the intersection of South Orphanage and Valencia roads. Bartley Coon Realty plans development for William P. Ormsby on a 10 acre site listed around 90000, with space for a small department store national chain variety store hardware drugstore beauty shop barber shoe repair and shoe shop. Other occupants are under consideration.
Walter Knickerbocker 74, a bricklayer from 803 Lord Ave, faces negligent homicide charges in Superior Court for a Dec 8 1954 crash at South Stone and West 17th. Herbert D. Fiske 67, manager of the Rancho Grande Hotel in Nogales Ariz, died Dec 31. Jurors were sworn and witnesses heard. Knickerbocker cited for failure to yield and stop sign violation as authorities cited both drivers.
Tucson police seek precise circumstances after Clyde Curtis McCurdy 41 suffered a skull fracture and remained in poor condition at County Hospital following an incident on South Meyer Avenue. Found unconscious at 180 S Meyer Ave, he was jailed for drunkenness and indecent exposure before transfer. Noted he had about $60 and a car earlier. friend Herschel Witt drove the car home. The case was continued in city court this morning.
A Nogales man Luis Andrade Loe was found guilty in district court of importing concealing and acquiring marijuana from a one-day trial. Judge James A. Walsh scheduled sentencing for 10 am June 6. A state patrolman stopped the car 24 miles north of the border. 20 marijuana cigarettes and a quarter pound of bulk marijuana were found. Loe claimed no knowledge and blamed a passenger. Assistant U S Attorney Robert O Boylston led the government. Defense counsel were Toby LaVetter and James Tegart.
Tucson Little Theater begins its 1955 56 subscription drive during intermission at the opening performance of Time Out for Ginger at El Conquistador hotel. The new women's auxiliary, led by Mrs. Alan Haas, will staff a ticket desk during the four performances. Patronships offer varied ticket bundles with advance reservations and program listings.
Brig. Gen. Jack Roberts 45 chief of staff of the 8th Air Force died of a coronary heart attack at a Colorado dude ranch near Grand Lake while en route from Carswell AFB Texas to Offutt AFB Nebraska. His wife and two children were with him. bodies moved to Lowry AFB Denver.
Doctors and student nurses played their annual softball clash at St. Marys Hospital with the doctors winning 22 to 21 after a big late surge. The game drew 700 spectators, featured multiple team swaps, and supported funds for a nurses home addition as the Municipal band performed.
A settlement out of court ended a 812,000 damage suit in Superior Court Judge Robert Tullar’s courtroom before the jury heard the case. Albert G. Brock and wife of 2621 N Walnut Ave won a fair settlement. Tucson Fertilizer Co and Pearlie Blacklidge faced negligence charges over a July 22, 1953 collision on East Rogers Road near Fairview Avenue. Mrs Brock claimed permanent injuries.
The 1955 cancer campaign at Davis Monthan Air Force Base raised 1 173 dollars for personnel and organizations. In a brief ceremony at base headquarters James Neilsen, chairman of the fund council of the 3040th Storage Squadron, and Capt. Robert E. Alngood of the 803rd Air Base Group presented the funds to Col. Robert C. Whipple, who then handed them to Fred Trump, ACS Pima County chairman. The 3040th Storage Squadron contributed 242.78 dollars, with the 803rd Installations Squadron next, giving 144.41 dollars.
The westbound El Capitan passenger train struck a heavy truck in downtown Pasadena wedging the vehicle against a building. Truck driver Abraham Rodriguez, 29, of Baldwin Park, was critically injured as wreckers freed two damaged units of the Diesel locomotive and the truck carrying a sand load.
Frontier Village residents report a nightly intruder dubbed the Shantom, a husky athletic prowler, who vaults fences and taps walls. Mrs. Henry J. Foster at 3934 E Hampton Place says he pummeled the roof and walls after midnight and chipped window putty on Tuesday. Neighbors say the suspect has haunted the area since last October, eluding sheriff’s deputies.
A note corrects a public records error stating the Paul Grimes named in yesterday's Citizen for disorderly conduct is not the resident at 4925 E Timrod. The correct individual is not identified in the available text.
