British air liner Tudor Ariel vanished during a 1,000 mile flight from Bermuda to Kingston Jamaica. Air and sea rescue forces were mobilized from Bermuda to hunt for the missing aircraft and its twenty occupants.
The Arizona Flying Farmers association selected a Mesa man to lead and form a committee to study the need for a state aeronautics commission. Oscar Becker and C. C. Cooper, both of Phoenix, were elected vice presidents.

Salina Kansas January 18 Smoky Hill air force base announced the names of 20 men aboard a B 29 Superfortress that crashed near Lochgollhe with no survivors reported. The aircraft from the 301st bomb group at Scampton England was returning to Salina after three months duty. Colonel Joe Kelly listed the crew at takeoff with several relatives noted for each.
Charles Ponzi, famed for a 1920 financial hoax promising 50 percent returns, died in a Rio hospital charity ward at 71. Semi paralyzed and partly blind, he left a unclaimed body in a public morgue, after deportation from the United States to Italy and then Brazil around 1930.
Labor leader John L. Lewis arrived at the El Conquistador hotel on Tuesday morning with his chauffeur and requested a room for a few days. William P. Odom said in New York he will attempt another nonstop leg in a light Beech single engine plane from Honolulu to New York. He arrived by air after weather forced a Tucson stop on the way from California to Wichita, Kansas. He previously flew a record of over 2400 miles from Honolulu to California in two planes.
