Seven Men Sentenced In Mississippi Civil Rights Slayings
Seven men including Ku Klux Klan leader Samuel Holloway Bowers Jr and Alton Wayne Roberts were sentenced to ten and six years respectively for conspiring to violate civil rights in the 1964 church slayings of Michael Schwerner Andrew Goodman and James Chaney in Neshoba and Meridian counties. The sentences followed October convictions by an all white Meridian jury under a Reconstruction era law. no fines were imposed.
