Coroner Rules Milligan Shot Himself

A coroner's jury ruled that Charles E. Milligan 55 died from a self inflicted gunshot wound in a hospital parking lot beside a sawed off .22 rifle. The inmate at the State Hospital died under unclear circumstances.

Maricopa Expands Superior Court With New Division

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved a new Superior Court division bringing the total to 20. Governor Sam Goddard was asked to appoint the new judge by January 1. Estimated cost for the six month remainder of the fiscal year is about $50 000. Milligan, 55, who once held the State Industrial Commission at gunpoint in 1962, was the subject of testimony about two bullets entering his head and a note requesting burial in Michigan.

Big Machines Tangle In Tucson Train Collision Injures Operator

Charles Wendell, 36, a heavy equipment operator, was injured when his front loader was struck by a Southern Pacific train on the spur to Pima Mine. Both machine and operator were thrown about 50 feet. Wendell survived and was listed in good condition at Tucson Medical Center. The 1 am accident occurred while he worked on a road to a gas substation south of Pima Mine Road.

Undersea Polaris Test Tracked From Gemini 7 Orbit

The Polaris A3 missile was launched from the submarine Benjamin Franklin 40 miles offshore Cape Kennedy and broke water in the Atlantic. Astronauts Frank Borman and James Lovell watched the streak as it descended the test range from their Gemini 7 orbit.

Canada To Get Big Pulp Mill

Premier Ross Thatcher announced in Regina a $65 million pulp mill and woods operation to be built near Prince Albert Saskatchewan. Construction starts in spring with production of 650 tons daily of bleached kraft pulp by mid-1963 and more than 3000 workers expected. Karl F. Landegger of Parsons & Whittemore joined the announcement representing the project.
