Pilot Dies Saving Passengers After Airliner Collision

Eastern Airlines pilot Charles J. White sacrificed his life aiding passenger evacuation after a collision with a TWA jet over Westchester County. Three others died and 50 injured as crews guided two planes carrying 112 people to Kennedy and Newark. Investigators pursue the crash cause while survivors praise White and TWA Captain Thomas Carroll for skilled emergency landings.

University Ranked 27th in Full Time Enrollment

University of Arizona appears 27th in full time enrollment with 15 687 students in a School and Society report on U S college enrollment. Brigham Young University also lists in the top 30 with 17 553 students. Registrar Dr Garland G Parker reports total enrollment at 4 686 057, with 3 295 539 full time, up 10 percent overall and 12 7 percent for full time.

Reservists Thank Viet Nam Unit With Signed Letter

Army reservists of Tucson and Douglas drafted a letter of gratitude to the 1st Cavalry Division Airmobile for gallantry in Viet Nam. The note, signed by about 230 men of the 5th Battalion 40th Armored Regiment, praises courage and freedom and links their mission with the soldiers’ example. Three reservists, Capt. George W. Schultz Sgt. Tony D. Sato and Pfc. Steven C. Logan, are former regulars of the division.

Dolls dressed for Christmas donated to Salvation Army

More than 700 new dolls dressed by volunteers were donated to the Salvation Army for Christmas gifts to needy girls. A Toy Tea for women in service and civic clubs will showcase the dolls Thursday at 2 105 p.m. at the Salvation Army Temple 1001 N Richey Blvd. Guests are asked to bring a toy for a boy or a teen gift to support underprivileged children.
