Greek Cloister Trial Over Deaths At Monastery
Mother superior Mariam Soulakiotou and seven nuns and a monk go on trial in Greece on charges including homicide, torture, and forgery related to the Kereatea monastery. She already serves 26 months for illegally detaining a girl for 12 years as authorities say six people died, four from tuberculosis contracted in isolation cells. The monastery’s 300 followers belong to an old calendar sect disowned by the Greek Orthodox Church.

Salt Verde Runoff Stays Above Normal Levels

Youth Found Dead Along Highway in Lordsburg
Ronald Gane Lyons a 17 year old from Springerville Arizona was found dead by U S Route 70 near Lordsburg New Mexico. State Police Capt John Bradford said he may have been struck by a pipe protruding from a passing truck. Lyons had called his parents from El Paso saying he lost his billfold and was hitchhiking home after thumbing a ride southbound. Oil field trucks were observed along the highway near the time of death.
