In Los Angeles the LAPD uses PATRIC, Pattern Recognition and Information Correlation, to cross reference crime data. After 19 years the analyst Pilkington tied Edward David Apodaca to a series of rapes by matching modus operandi in 1966 tapes, leading to his arrest and charges.
