A husband and wife eluded police by exchanging outfits to disguise their identities and slipping away before authorities could intervene. Officers pursued leads across the city, uncovering the ruse as residents reported suspicious behavior near the market.
New Haven report details Stanley Thorpe and his wife Gertrude arrested in Windsor Locks after disguising as each other to dodge New York police. Thorpe wore women’s clothes in Hartford and relied on a tipped-off bellboy. Authorities say Mrs. Thorpe staged a plan to mislead pursuers while the man appeared in female garb.
In Winchester Kentucky Jack Wills and George Ballard staged a mock bout between a game rooster and a trained buzzard. The pair were tethered for combat but the buzzard lifted off and disappeared with the rooster, never to be found. Ballard mourns the loss of his prized cock while Wills retells the tale with humor.
