A local fortune teller deceived a woman by claiming a curse on alimony funds from her husband. The scheme aimed to pressure the woman into relinquishing money tied to the divorce settlement. Authorities investigate the fraud and advise caution against similar scams.
A Portland woman divorced and awarded four thousand dollars received a visit from a supposed fortune teller who promised to lift a curse from her alimony. She paid a fee, handed the bills, and the box returned empty besides paper. The con was exposed to police and press.
Lee Johnston Perreau, 16, swallowed six pennies nails over a month to prove nails could be digested. He died from the experiment in Oakland California with witness Herbert Coffin confirming the act and motive.
