Large shipments of trenching tools, picks, shovels, crowbars and sand bags arrive at Columbus New Mexico base for the punitive expedition in Mexico. Officers say the heavy shipments suggest a possible renewed field campaign and some troops may rejoin in Mexico. Adobe houses rise at field HQ as coats are sent to soldiers.
Colonel Theodore Roosevelt urged compulsory military training to boost democracy and national development in a Denver speech. He assailed President Wilson, urged repeal of the current military bill, and praised Switzerland as a model. Roosevelt also campaigned for Hughes, criticized foreign policy, and pressed for woman suffrage amendment support.
The fourth annual Southern Arizona Fair begins tomorrow with the first El Paso and Southwestern train leaving Congress Street for the grounds at 6 26 a m. Many local stores close Friday afternoons. schools and banks also adjust, and aviation acts by Edward Stinson join the exhibits. Side shows and a merry-go-round promise entertainment as the grounds are prepared and policed for safety.
A Mexican report claims Felix Diaz has conquered the state of Mexico by reaching Toluca with thousands of troops and ample supplies. General Medina Barron asserts Diaz controls Colima with 3000 men and has funds and arms for a large campaign, with movements centered near Guadalajara and Ameca.
Washington October 25. Charges that General Carranza plans to leave Mexico are spreading among his opponents in Mexico City. Reported by officials here the trip would accompany his wife and General Obregon’s wife on a tour of the United States. Critics see the move as a political blunder and a sign of weakness if true.
An explosion at the One Hundred and Tenth Street station of the Lenox Avenue line damaged the station. The ticket booth was smashed, the agent injured, lamps and kiosks damaged, sidewalk overhead torn, nearby windows broken, and traffic suspended for an hour. Police report four people injured.
Fred W. Upham, treasurer of the Western Republican headquarters, announced receipts totaling 387063.06 through October 21 and expenditures in the western department. He forwarded a detailed account to the House clerk and plans another report before election day plus a final statement within ten days after.
Washington reports the deaths of Captain W. W. Low and First Sergeant Frank L. Attwood of the Marine Corps in the Dominican Republic while attempting to arrest a bandit. First Lieutenant John Marston II was injured by a fall. The bandit Ramon Batista was killed and the location of the fight is not specified. Conditions otherwise are quiet.
Washington Oct 25 bids for four battleships and twenty destroyers reveal structural material costs push up naval building. Fore River bid 10 060 000 per battleship plus private-assembly terms, with other bids near 11 6 million per ship. Navy says all bids stay within cost limits, allowing private builders to proceed unless policy changes.
The Pressed Steel Car Company in New York announces a quarterly dividend of 1.50 dollars per common share, up 59 cents from the previous report. The move follows a regular quarterly distribution and reflects an increased payout to shareholders.
Six persons were killed when an interurban car of the Southern Michigan Railway Company struck an automobile north of South Bend Indiana. Only the body has been identified Franklin Brown of Linwood Indiana.
New York October 25 cotton futures rose above the 20 cent mark for the first time since the Civil War, with the May contract edging up to 20.01 cents as buyers pushed prices higher in a brisk session.

Italian and French seaplanes bombarded Austrian military works along three west Istrian coast locations and escaped unharmed. A separate air duel near Caorle ended with an Austrian seaplane capsized and another sinking in a lagoon at Baseleghe.
London reports five Norwegian steamships sunk by German submarines. The ships are valued at about 5,660,000 kroner. The news comes from an exchange dispatch from CrCarthy? based in Christania.
