End of Sky Marshal Program Quietly Fizzled, 1970–71

The anti hijacking Sky Marshal program started in 1970 by Transport Secretary Volpe faded within two years amid airline resistance and tech progress. The only notable airborne incident occurred Oct 27, 1971, when three marshals accompanied a hijacked American Airlines 747 to Havana. In 1971, they operated on limited flights and arrested 18 people for offenses related to disorderly conduct or weapons.

Army receives Roland missile in first U.S. build

Hughes Aircraft Co. delivered two Roland ground to air missiles to Brig. Gen. Ragano for the Army's Roland program.
