Arizona rehab programs blamed for high costs
Dr. George Mayo, head of the Arizona Rehabilitation Association, told the Mayor's Committee on Employment of the Handicapped luncheon that state vocational rehabilitation for the disabled is costly and inefficient. He urged removing programs from the DES to a separate state commission and cited a basement office access problem as evidence of systemic failings. The luncheon honored Don Smith of Hughes Aircraft Co. as employee of the year and Kalil Bottling Co. as employer of the year.
