Seven hundred United Mine Workers delegates from Pennsylvania hard coal districts gather at Nesbitt theater in Wilkes-Barre to study a proposed settlement ending the long strike. President Mitchell urges prompt acceptance and urges submitting all issues to a tribunal chosen by the U S president.
Ex-president Grover Cleveland, speaking to The Evening Post, argues that a earnest Democratic effort can grow congressional representation if it relentlessly upholds true Democratic doctrines, with tariff reform as the central issue. He warns against lukewarmness and urges continuous political warfare to secure victory and attract young voters.
In Duluth and neighboring towns Senator Knute Nelson rushed to meet trains after a freight wreck halted service. He borrowed a hand-car from a section crew and rode five miles to Wolf Junction to catch a Duluth bound train, then spoke inNibbing and Two Harbors as scheduled.

Mrs. Minnie Overstreet Fortson of Colorado Springs is named an heir to the estate of Mrs. Sarah Payne who died intestate in London. The vast estate is estimated at 91 million dollars. Payne’s husband moved from London to Virginia and Kentucky relatives trace the line to Dr. Stokley T. Payne of Paducah.

Perdue a 17 year old clerk at the Walston hotel was accidentally shot and killed at the hotel office by Hamilton Sutherland son of G G Sutherland president of Green River Asphalt company of St Louis Sutherland had asked the clerk to guard his revolver a 38 calibre and it discharged instantly killing Perdue No other persons were present in the office Perdue came from Champaign Illinois and his mother lives there.
New York, Oct. 20. The so called bulletproof vest invented by Rev Casimore Zeglen was penetrated by seven bullets from a 38 caliber revolver during a public test in Brooklyn. The inventor’s representative said Father Zeglen was not present due to an order for 20 vests from coal mine operators fearing strikers. The price stood at 50 dollars per vest and a New York public exhibition was planned in about three weeks.
