Private water firms warn of rate increases in Tucson area
Metropolitan and small private water companies push back against higher rates as city plans to raise charges. In 1970 Metropolitan customers paid about $10 monthly for average home use, far below future costs. Drew Vador, critic of the Beat the Peak campaign, says he may need to raise his own rates and notes a 20 percent revenue drop from summer usage. He blames city handling and argues private water firms must hire lawyers and analysts, making rate hikes costly.
