A conservative push outlines a plan to obtain silver for use in the Philippine Islands. The effort envisions freeing more silver to support imperial administration and economic interests abroad.
An unnamed authority says Republicans aim to add a provision in the Philippines government bill to coin silver into American Philippine dollars. The move would flood Western markets with silver bullion, bolster Philippine development, and push silver States to back retention of the islands, trading on Bryan era policies and the 16 to 1 silver standard.
Mrs. Hester G. Stamm formerly married to Rev. J. F. Stamm a Kokomo minister wed James P. Downey a Columbus laundry foreman and ex convict in Anderson Ind Stamm sought to win her back after a divorce and a confrontation occurred with Downey present Stamm announced her love for Downey and she obtained a license before returning to Columbus then came back to Anderson with Downey.
Colonel F S Andrews of the Phoenix Inn in Findlay Ohio predicts another war in Cuba within five years. He says independence is favored only by high class landholders who are Spaniards while business interests and common people want American statehood. He warns factional warfare could follow and that American control is the only solution to ensure prosperity for Cuba.
Washington reports say the President will remove Lt Gen Nelson A Miles from his post in the next two weeks to restore harmony between the War Department and the army. The move is described as a steps toward uniting interests, placing a capable officer in charge.
A Washington dispatch reports Senator Tom Platt of New York supports annexing Cuba as soon as possible while acknowledging tariff concessions may be needed. He notes strong ownership interests favoring U S governance but concedes immediate annexation is unlikely.

During the sermon his body twitches into catalepsy and he resumes where he left off after brief interruptions. The phenomenon draws white and black neighbors to Perry's cabin and skeptics doubt his sleep preaching.
In Cleveland on March 27 Balek, a drunk husband, burned his three month old child on a red hot stove until its feet blistered. A woman intervened with a whitewash brush, beating him until the child was dropped. Balek received seven months in the workhouse and $225 plus costs, totaling about three years.
In St. Louis a nine year old swallowed a carpet tack and survived after surgeons at St. John’s Hospital used a magnet to extract it. The procedure, first of its kind on record, followed failed attempts by ordinary methods. The magnet, devised by Dr. Schandersson and Graber, was operated by Dr. Brokaw. The patient is expected to recover.
Abram Garfield son of the martyred President runs for councilman in Glenville Cleveland with opponent William Wright The Vinlage Blacksmith who operates the steam hammer at the Cleveland Hardware Company says he will campaign after hours and believes he can defeat Garfield in the election.
President B F Yoakum of the St Louis and San Francisco Railway travels from California via Austin to St Louis with attorney Thomas F West. They outline extensions west to Los Angeles and San Francisco and east from Birmingham to Savannah totaling about two thousand miles. A branch from Brownwood Texas to San Antonio and then to Brownsville on the Mexican border is also confirmed.

A mining expert from North Carolina writes to St. Louis health officials proposing a cheap, practical method to exterminate rats and mice. He claims citywide action for a day from birth of each rat could annihilate most rat armies and save millions, and seeks to demonstrate in person.
Henderson Ky March 27 Two Kentugrians fought a street duel over a business dispute. Green W Pritchett a wealthy tobacconist was killed instantly after Belew a prominent farmer wounded him then shot himself. Belew died later. Coroner's verdict pending.
