Washington March 14 The House committee on Territories approves an omnibus bill admitting Arizona New Mexico and Oklahoma as states rather than separate measures. Delegates and lawmakers see improved chances for all three, while questions linger about Arizona and New Mexico and Oklahoma’s relative prospects.

Chicago March 14 Edward Hausman of 396 Leavitt street a patient at the County Hospital shows a gain in weight from 185 to 225 pounds in three weeks as he plans to continue efforts to reduce.
An alligator gar weighing 25 pounds and six feet long was captured this morning in the pumping station catch well of the Boston Water and Light Company in Alton Illinois. Three men hauled it from the 236 inch diameter main pipe and it was dispatched on rocks. The gar is the largest ever seen in the Mississippi at Alton and attracted many onlookers before being shown as a curiosity.
Louisville wires report Mrs Mary Johnson of Scott County Indiana has married six men, dating from Jasper Lynch a farmer she divorced after his wife fled to a circus. She then wed Will Hawn who died, then Nelson at Crothersville, later Richardson Fleurette who served time for bigamy, Kinney who died, and finally Silas Johnson.
M F Pell a farmer near Cheat River West Virginia faced a desperate night encounter with a large black bear that wandered into his corn yard. Pell used a pitchfork to strike the bear wounding both sides after a brutal struggle the bear fled into the woods and was later tracked to a cave where hunters believe it died from its injuries.
E G Whitney of Rocky Ford Colorado asks the Nebraska Board of Public Lands and Buildings for a contract to cause rainfall across the state next summer. He offers to produce a one inch rainfall for the price of one thousand dollars claiming decades of experience and improvements in his method.
Two train loads of Utah excursionists including over 150 Salt Lake Tabernacle Choir members left Salt Lake City for California aboard the Oregon Short Line. They will spend ten days visiting Sacramento San Francisco Monterey and the Leland Stanford University building with the choir giving concerts at each stop.
The Rev. S. M. Gilchrise pastor of the Methodist Church faced threats from a mob opposing his crusade against saloons. After checking saloons late at night he and congregants were followed to his parsonage where shouts of kill him arose, but he escaped to his home.

It creates a Board of Control over banking and currency replacing the Comptroller, allows national banks to redeem gold notes and issue up to sixty percent of paid capital, and sets note denominations and silver redemption rules.

Reports from South Africa say Cecil Rhodes may die soon, shocking London as investors worry over a potential market dislocation. Reet Rhodes a carpenter of 507 South Broadway survived a Louisville and Nashville collision near Carmills. After his foot was severed and his leg crushed he crawled two miles along a rough road to a farmhouse where rescuers helped him. He had attempted to signal a following passenger train with fire.
