Clifton Police Walkout Nears Endorsement of Sheriff Contract
Clifton faces a police walkout with only Patrolman Fred Barquin remaining. Town Manager Joseph Pennington says a contract for law enforcement with Greenlee County Sheriff’s Office is under consideration. Sheriff coverage began after federal agents seized weapons from Chief Donald R. Lane and dealer J. Curtis Earl. Lt. Manuel Perea was fired after protesting not becoming acting chief, and the remaining officers resigned in solidarity. A special Town Council meeting was planned to decide the contract and future policing.
