Weather Service to start reporting Celsius alongside Fahrenheit
The National Weather Service plans a metric shift starting mid 1978 with dual Fahrenheit and Celsius temperatures, then full switch by January 1979. Precipitation inches will be shown in millimeters, wind in kilometers per hour, and announcements from telephone services will follow the change.
