Nellie Stone could not marry at a ceremony due to a quarantine for smellpox at her relatives’ home. The physician advised using a phonograph to record her vows. The recording was played back at the Duncan home where a clergyman officiated and the marriage was declared legal.
In Anderson Indiana Jan 39 Beiuma Arms and Noah Thoop both of Elwood aged under forty were married in the Superior Courtroom by Rev Clifford after a brief ceremony. This marked Arms eighth marriage after seven divorces in ten years at the same courthouse. Deputy Clerk Malone refused to credit her $9 toward the last divorce costs, the groom paid the balance, and the wedding proceeded.
In Bridgeport Connecticut Mrs Clara M Burgoyne wife of Frank Burgoyne died of pneumonia after two weeks illness. Her daughter Miss Cora A Burgoyne nursed her mother then fell ill and died a week later. The bodies were taken to Southampton after both deaths.
Parkersburg West Virginia January 30 1912 Professor B D Gangner says the janitor Robert Alexander Jr caused odious conduct and endangering morality by whistling dancing with girls in the dining room and corridors while teachers were away.
