Allan Teeter and W H Foster, farmers near College Mound, Macon County, fought yesterday afternoon with double barreled shotguns over the right to take water from a roadside well. Teeter was badly wounded but is expected to recover as the drought makes water a scarce asset. The conflict arose after Foster posted a warning not to draw water. Teeter reportedly tore the notice down and threatened violence.
Mrs Eliza Edwards leaves Nilwood to return to Utah with her young daughter after renouncing the Mormon Church years earlier to marry Edwards a Presbyterian. The move follows an estrangement from former Gentile friends in Bingham Junction Utah and Springfield.
In Harrisburg Illinois on January 18 a group of farmers were swindled out of thousands by two strangers posing as hunters. They offered five dollars to hunt on land, got signed receipts that later became promissory notes for five hundred dollars, and payments were demanded by a third party. At least ten landowners were affected.

Two men with revolvers robbed a gambling room at Ci's Cole saloon on Fourteenth and Douglass streets in Omaha at 4 am securing a cash box and about $200 from patrons. They were later arrested. suspects named Krana Willis and Frank Jones.

A Boston bank reports floods of bad drafts for 25 drawn on the New England Directory Company of Boston. Drafts signed by C. H. Carter R M Moon and Co and B Fisher have been received from Colorado New Mexico Louisiana Nevada Arizona and Wyoming towns but refused. Banks incur no loss except time returning them as they search for the real New Engine Directory Company.
Representative Kahn of California introduced a Pacific Coast backed Chinese Exclusion Bill in Washington on January 18. It was sent to the Foreign Affairs Committee with hearings to begin next week and final House action expected.
In Hawley, Mary Wilson nearly became an old maid after a kiss from Joseph Jackson of Honesdale. The incident sparked a chase as the father, armed with a gun, pursued the suitor who fled through the parlor. Mary later wrote a fourteen page letter seeking forgiveness and, after telephoning the father for permission, plans a marriage.

Excitement mounts in Ripley Oklahoma after a Dunkard church wrecking carried out with dynamite last night. Authorities suspect no single culprit yet and neighborhood tensions persist. Earlier in Cushings Judge Walker fined Rose Edgram Lillie Fillmore and James Shoop two dollars each for disturbing Dunkard services. The youths dispute the charges, their families contest the fines, and one girl threatened to horsewhip the judge and minister. The minister remained in town and preached despite the notice to leave.
Yuma Arizona residents witnessed the installation of city leaders for the new term. Mayor R S Patterson and councilmen A G Wilder and Robert Tapia, along with Marshal John L Balsz, were sworn in during the ceremony following the recent election.
