Clarion, Pa April 24 A blaze swept Marionville Forest County wiping out about half the town. The fire destroyed 150 buildings, caused an estimated loss near 300000 with only about 75000 insured. Five hundred residents were left homeless as flames extended from the town to a lumber yard and into the surrounding woods.
Senator H. D. Money of Mississippi reports a streetcar fight this morning over extra fare. He says the conductor struck him twice with a hammering implement and the conductor cut his right hand with a knife. Money claims the extra fare had already been paid.
In Canon City Colorado on April 24 a couple totaling 146 years wed at the Free Methodist church. The groom, Rev. W H Hightower, is 83 and widowed after 60 years of marriage. The bride, Mary Goodwin, is 63 and a widow with a married daughter in Canon City. He is a Holiness minister and she a Seventh Day Adventist.
San Francisco April 24 The street railway strike looks set to end before nightfall as a conference between the united railroads and a car men committee yields progress. Syndicate directors’ executive committee has been meeting to consider the men’s demands with optimism for a conclusion today.
April 24 in Patterson New Jersey reports the silk dye house strike continuing with no broad return to work. Striking helpers gathered near shops but did not demonstrate, while police reserves stood ready from six in the morning to handle potential incidents.
Venezuelan government forces of about 2200 men under General Ramon Castillo attacked revolutionaries between San Antonio and Guiana, thirty leagues from Guiana. Castillo was wounded an hour after combat began. troops disbanded and retreated toSan Antonio. Castillo later died of his wounds.
