Trial at Carrickfergus highlights alleged legal abuse in Ireland
The Northern Whig report details the Carrickfergus summer assizes case where Michael Mullan died after a drunken fall and a stone strike. Four men were found guilty of manslaughter, while a murder indictment was dropped via nolle prosequi. The Lord Chief Justice condemned the lenient sentences, accusing crown counsel of mismanaging the prosecution and calling for accountability among Irish law officials.
