Two Clover Leaf freight trains collided head on about 20 miles west of Charleston. Conductor Walter Lee and Brakeman Hobbler were killed. Lee died after helping the sick fireman, who had fallen ill at Edwardsville. Lee went forward to fire the engine and was entrapped beneath wreckage. Engineer Stone was badly hurt.
Miss Jennie Fairbanks of Mansfield, niece of Vice President Elect Fairbanks, was taken to a Bloomington hospital after a friend accidentally jostled her arm while she adjusted her hat. The hatpin buried in her eye and doctors will attempt to save her sight.
A major blaze in Washburn wiped out seven buildings including the village hall and August Martini’s general store in under an hour. Veterinary surgeon Dr. Jesse Weaver, who occupied a room in the store, died in the fire. Estimated losses run around $10,000 and authorities suspect incendiary causes.
A Chicago jury fined Richard Fox $100 after he pressed a kiss on Lizzie Anderson’s cheeks. Anderson objected to Fox’s impious salute and was knocked off balance, falling from the sidewalk and suffering painful injuries.

Lawrence Massachusetts December 25. An attachment for 5000 dollars filed October 6 at the registry of deeds begins the Chadwick case. Herbert B Newton of Brookline is sued by Everett E Williams. A Newton friend in this city asked about the trouble. Newton said the suit was a surprise since he had paid and held receipts. Williams had received one Chadwick note from Newton and believed it good but found it worthless. Newton then suspected the other Chadwick paper and filed suit, revealing startling facts.
William Frank a messenger boy at the World's fair grounds fell from the DeForest tower 330 feet high landing on a sloping roof 300 feet above ground. He rolled like a marble toward the edge through a roof scuttle hole and landed face down on the top step of the winging stairs. He escaped with a badly lacerated face and was not seriously hurt.
