Miss Lucy V. McGivney describes long headaches and side back pains that kept her from work. After using Peruna she reports rapid improvement and renewed activity, calling the remedy simply marvelous. The company notes many grateful letters but space limits sharing more.
In New Orleans on April 26 a Confederate reunion drew sixty thousand attendees. Gen Lee outlined duties to honor Confederate dead and memory, while Adj’t-Gen Mickle reported on new camps and finances. Speakers praised soldiers’ valor amid commemorations.
Fifty years ago painted houses were rare and unpainted ones common. Prepared paints, cheaper and easier to use, replaced hand mixing, boosting standards and cutting costs. The piece urges timely painting to protect lumber and argues for trusted brands, quality dealers, and neighbor experience as proof. It ends with a note on English women escaping traditional roles and London Truth finding anarchy in homes.
The Kansas City Journal quotes Edward Everett Hale advising daily speech with a known superior as an easy duty and adds a lighter note that if the wife is not at home one could speak to the cook.
President Roosevelt states the Red Cross no longer necessary for relief funds and urges donations go to ex Mayor James D. Phelan, chairman of San Francisco’s finance committee, with Mr Devine coordinating Red Cross disbursements. He notes 800000 homeless cared for last five days and commends local committees and army for efficiency. White House April 25, 1906.
In St Louis County, John Dellein asked his wife to kiss him goodbye as he drank carbolic acid, saying he would be dead soon. The bottle was empty with cork out, neighbors summoned a doctor but he died before arrival. Coroner returned a verdict of death by his own action. Dellein had been summoned to testify against a murder suspect.
A major blaze in Little Rock started in C. C. Beachamp’s barn at Twentieth and Louisiana, spread two hours in high winds, destroying six homes on South Main and causing extensive roof damage ten to twelve blocks away. The fire, fueled by embers in a business district, prompted evacuation prep as three large residences burned. Edward Beach, seriously ill with typhoid fever, died from the shock of relocation.
