Destructive Sunday Stormes Illinois Area Hit Makanda
A severe storm moved northeast from Cobden to Makanda Sunday evening causing major destruction at Water Valley three miles southeast. The church was destroyed, several buildings were torn from foundations, and a family of six suffered injuries. Makanda saw a cloudburst flooding Fraternity temple area, with stores and homes affected. Near Dewey Station, two women and a man were injured as wind, rain, and lightning struck.
