Hit Japan Hard Says MacArthur
General MacArthur urged Allied leaders to adopt massive strikes against Japan in the Pacific, criticizing island hopping for heavy losses and slow progress. A Tokyo radio forecast warned Tokyo and other cities would be targeted, with measures to evacuate the capital, bolster anti air defenses, and centralize industry and traffic. Australian and American air forces then attacked Japanese-held territory in New Guinea and the Solomons, while air raids hit centers in China and Burma.
