Mechanicville's "Zowaves" in Civil War uniforms drew warm applause in Albany during the Year of History parade. The unit, formed for Necharelle's Centennial Celebration and ongoing under Mechanicville VFW Post, impressed Gov. Rockefeller and Princess Beatrix with blue and red attire and rifle drills. Edward Thompson led the drills as drillmaster while the Zouaves carried a 46 star Civil War flag and the NY Zouaves banner led by Cal Ellsworth. The group met to discuss fund raising and recruitment and invites interested youths to contact James Waters, Charles Osborn, or Guy Coreno. They plan further parade appearances next year.
