Belgian Fort Captured by Americans in Silent Raid

American infantry in Holand surprise and seize the Belgian Eben Exine fort by tunnel, trapping a German garrison guarding the Meuse Meuse lock at Albert Canal. They delay a buildup planned to blow the lock, enabling armor to advance toward the Siegfried Line. Lieut. Claude F. Curtis Jr. and Lieut. Col. Stewart Hall describe the operation and the attritional fight with 92 German defenders.

Buffalo Man Slain in Niagara State Park

Police seek assailant in the murder of Anthony Niemic 40 of Buffalo whose body was found battered and partly disrobed on the banks of the Niagara River in Niagara Falls State Reservation Park. Authorities note possible robbery motive though Niemic was not known to carry large sums of money. a large rock was found nearby.
