Young Extortionist Charged Over $1700 Racket

In Buffalo, a 1 year old Negro youth is charged after extorting 1700 dollars from a 75 year old door to door salesman for protection. The teacherless boy, a Woodlawn Junior High pupil, will be petitioned to Children's Court. The salesman claims attacks and losses forced him from business amid racial disorders on the near east side.

Jordanian Strike Call Unanswered in East Jerusalem

In East Jerusalem and much of the West Bank a general strike call failed to gain traction as reinforced army and police patrolled streets. Merchants in East Jerusalem opened late but resumed normal activity by mid morning despite leaflets threatening fines of 167 dollars for closures.

Rocky To Urge Aid On Medicare Costs

Governor Rockefeller pledged to urge the 1968 Legislature to authorize the state to assume increased local Medicaid costs beyond the 1967 68 level. He cited rising hospital and medical costs as a financial problem for local governments and said the state should offer greater help to communities involved in the program.

Martin Block Dies Dean Of Disc Jockeys

Martin Block 64 longtime radio disc jockey and creator of the Make Believe Ballroom died after surgery in Englewood Hospital. A 36 year broadcaster, he worked with WOR New York and wrote the theme It s Make Believe Ballroom Time. He led the Army and Air Force Disc Jockey Corps during World War II and hosted the Make Believe Ballroom at WNEW for 19 years. Surviving are his wife Joyce Christoforo six children by a former marriage and one by his present marriage. They lived in Fort Lee New Jersey.

Strangler Se sentenced for escape in Plymouth case

Albert DeSalvo, the man linked to Boston Strangler claims, was sentenced to seven to ten years in State prison for escaping Bridgewater State Hospital on February 24. Judge Sgarzi urged the maximum. DeSalvo had earlier received life for assaults on four Boston women. Trials of two escape companions, Frederick Erickson and George Harrison, were set to begin.

Montreal police say Monica Proetli, 29, dubbed Machine Gun Molly, was killed after a car chase following a credit union holdup. One of two male suspects was captured. a second escaped. An 11 month old child on a lawn was wounded by a bullet during the pursuit. Money from the robbery was found in the car that hit a bus.

Canada Not Informed On Missile System Plan
