Acting Police Judge Malley AM serves as acting Valles Court Justice while Thomas J. OConnor takes his son John M O Fouher to Philadelphia where he will enter Villarova College.
Armand Willis, recently of Evanston, becomes acting director of the Junior College division of Albany, a Russell Sage College unit, and will teach soviology and government. A Northwestern graduate, he has Navy service, diplomatic postings, and urban planning work, with extensive experience in international relations and public welfare. The Willis family, residents of Troy, consider Quaker Olivett home.
Debris of deed filings shows transfers involving William A. Linvis and the Berney Healy Co as represented by John J. Sweeney and the real estate broker in a Mallrand Building transaction. The notes reference Madison area streets and county clerk notation with Morris and Edward M. Away among listed parties and officers.
Lt Col George 5 Quick, recently reassigned to Watervliet Arsenal after a three year Far East tour, is named Chief of Operations. He previously served as Ordnance Officer in Korea and Admin Services at Oppama Japan, with a distinguished academic background including degrees from Michigan and Wayne State, plus studies in Brazil and Paris. He and his wife Catherine Purdom of Ann Arbor have five children.
Adjournment till September 23 granted in Troy Police Court in the case of William Arby, 44, of 2411h Street, charged with improperly issuing a stale permit. He was arrested on a State Police complaint by Trooper Kenneth [illegible]. He remains in custody on $50 cash bail.
Miss Gertrude M. Moore state committeewoman is among Democratic women to be honored at the New York State Democratic Committee dinner in Albany. She will sit on the dais with former President Truman Gov. Harriman and other candidates. Other honored leaders include Mary Marey, Joyce Weeks, and Eleanor Tilgerald. The event marks a historic recognition for women party leaders. Thirteen women seek major legislative or countywide posts as the party plans statewide campaign efforts.
Sacred Heart School Women’s Civic elected a standing committee for the coming year and approved plans for the annual Membership Tea in the remodeled gym on Sept. 22. The group also established a permanent scholarship fund to cover one year’s tuition for a Sacred Heart student attending Catholic Central High School. Rev. Bernard J. Abern spoke on the new school addition as members enjoyed refreshments at the meeting in the school cafeteria.
Rensselaer county Legal Secretaries Association holds its annual election during a dinner meeting at Tavern Bluff this evening. Temporary president Mrs Marilyn Wilcox announces reservations due by tomorrow noon and a nominating committee will report officers at the dinner. committee members include Mrs Marie Cropse Miss Dorothea Goldberg Mrs Irene Legge Miss Carolyn Miller Miss Louise C Eddy and Mrs Ellen O'Brien. Local arrests include M Chartier 21 charged with speeding 35 mph in a 15 mph school zone and running a red light at Tyler and 4th streets.
The State Bureau of Motor Vehicles revoked 24 367 license plates last month as owners lost plates when they did not have automobile liability insurance. To reregister, an offender must pass a small test, provide new proof of insurance, and pay the registration fee. About 103 owners were fined for driving without insurance during lapses. Some 25 247 plates were voluntarily turned in to avoid penalties, while temporary turn ins before coverage expire avoided extra fees.
The Rensselaer County Motor Vehicle Bureau will open temporary offices in three towns to renew operators licenses. Locations include Wynantskill Municipal Building from 6:30 to 11:30 am, Hensel er Fire House 1 to 4 pm, and Newsselace City Wall. The plan resumes in the next two Fridays with Hoosick Falls again on Sept 24. Windows in the Court House operate weekdays 2 am to 5 pm. closed Saturdays.
A Stamp and Coin Club gathering is planned for 8 p m at the Y M C A with Joseph Willee l as host. Members will discuss a new philatelic issue commemorating U S postal history and a design honoring Sam yes postal history figures.
