John C. Schaertel will be installed as pastor of Gilead Lutheran Church Celer Finniswirk in a 4 pm ceremony. His father Elmer Schaer tel, a Redeemer Lutheran pastor, will attend to charge him with duties and present bith to the congregation. Several pastors including Clarence Schaer tel of St. James Lutheran Gloversville and Paul Henry of St. Paul’s Red Hook will participate. Schaertel is a Wagner College and Lutheran Theological Seminary Philadelphia graduate, ordained in the New York New England Synod sessions in June. Mrs Schaertel, a graduate of Urainus College, Langhorne, Pa, was a physical education instructor at Neshany High School. A reception will follow in the church parlors.
The Adventist Welfare Society and its Western New York affiliate plan a fall gathering in Gloversville Monday at 5 PM led by Mrs. Begsie Carpenter. A buffet supper will cap the session as the group reviews plans to align church welfare with Civil Defense Red Cross and local emergency services.

Most Rev William A Scully historian Albany will attend the annual Feast of Our Lady of la Balette at La Ss lelle Shrine in Altamont on Sunday Sept 21. He is scheduled to preside over devotions and deliver a sermon. Devotions start 4 20 p m and include Rosary Benediction and blessing of the sick. Preludes will run Sept 17 18 and 19 with candlelight processions each night during the Rosary. Sermons will be given by Hon John Carly MS Rev Jot Hughes MS and Rev Charles Rukus MS.
One hundred members of Queen Elizabeths household troops from Buckingham Palace will perform at the RPI Pink House at 2 30 pm on Monday September 22. The Grenadier Guards band will be joined by Scots Guards pipers and dancers in a British pomp and ceremony program conducted by Major Fred Harris with pipe majors John Ror and Robert Crabh.
Troy area members urged to attend tryouts for The Mikado presented by the Institute of the Opera Drama and Theatrical Arts in Albany. Openings exist in singing and backstage posts. tryouts set for Monday Sept 22 at 7 30 PM in St John’s Eniscopus Hall and another session in late November in Albany venues. The company, founded 19 years ago as Albany High Opera Co, emphasizes Gilbert and Sullivan classic appeal.
Mrs Antonia Kilgman a mezzo soprano becomes the choir soloist at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church succeeding Mys Raymond Campbell She has sung with the Athros Opera Company in Greece and will debut with the Athens choir tomorrow Her husband teaches electrical engineering at RPT Mrs Townsend Heistey directs the choir and will accompany as pianist Mr Wesley Bayliss chairs the Music Council

Robert Stoker is appointed organist and chair director of Westminster Presbyterian Church and will assume the post tomorrow. He previously served as organist and chair director at Eagle Alllls Methodist Church and Trinity Methodist Church before studying music in New York.
Eagle Mills Woman's Society of Christian Service will hold its first meeting of the new season Tuesday at 8 in the church. The program includes reports from the Try Conference WACS Summer School led by Mrs. Sherwood J. Gar Ivor and others. Hostesses will be Mrs. Chester De La Malet and Mrs. Charles Bulson. The evening includes worship, sermons, and youth fellowship topics.
C E Davis longtime Albany Times Union editor died yesterday in Albany after a long illness. He was 67 and retired from the Albany paper last October. Born February 14 1890 in Urbana Illinois he joined Hearst in 1925 and worked at Chicago American Journal American Rochester Journal American Newsy Host Baltimore. Survivors include his widow Mary two sons Charles Jr and Robert three in Falls Church a daughter Blaine Hyde and two sisters and seven grandchildren. Services will be held in Albany Monday morning with burial in Albany.
Twenty four members of Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1989 were promoted to senior status at a ceremony where black velvet bands were added to their uniforms. Miss Marling M. Lander presented the bands at the Nurses Residence day event. Several named students from area towns were listed among the promoted seniors and others were noted as joining psychiatry at Marry State Hospital.
Mrs Kathryn Taylor a nurse at Leonard Hospital died after a month’s illness. Born Kathryn Shanahan she was a lifelong Troy resident and Catholic. Survived by brother Thomas Shanahan sister Agnes Calhoun and nephew Thomas Shanahan. Funeral Monday from Edward T. Galion Funeral Home to SS Paul the Apostle Church for Solemn Requiem Mass. interment in St Peter’s Cemetery.
Temple Beth El Sisterhood outlines events for the coming year at a meeting held at Mrs. Joseph Brociner's home. President Mrs. Samus Sedlick delivered a recap of highlights and calendar fundraising plans. The group announced hosting the Troy Jewish Women's Organization on February 16, 1959, with Mrs. Murray Shabol as hostess and reports on youth activities and adult education classes.
Funeral service for Bertha M. Van Hoesen, longtime Christ and St. Barnabas Episcopal member, held at Christ and St Barnabas Church with Requiem High Mass. Rev Kroncall officiated, organist Knight Dunkerly, singer Reynald McKunn. Burial in family plot Wood Cemetery. Delegations from Women's Auxiliary National Postal Transport Association and State Bank of Albany visited the funeral home.
