Intercepted Cuban migrants face weapons charges at Port Everglades
In Fort Lauderdale on a recent day thirty five Cubans aboard the motor vessel Harpoon were intercepted by federal and Broward deputies as they attempted to flee Port Everglades with bags of guns and ammunition. Thirty four detainees were taken to Broward County Jail while the FBI prepared charges as agents investigated a plan believed to back rebel forces in Cuba.

State Court Dismisses Large Claim for $50,000
The State Court of Claims dismissed the $50,000 personal injury claim of Mrs. Pay D. Philo and the related property damage claim by her father Harold Chilson, arising from an Aug 29 accident on Route 4 near Whitehall. The court ruled the evidence failed to prove a defect of such nature that the state should have guarded against it, noting no prior accidents at the site and no improper design shown. The decision, by Judge Charles Lambiase, indicates the state did not breach construction or maintenance duties.
