Albany Tax Books Photographed in City Probe
The State Tax Department has photographed every page of Albany's 1943 assessment books as it investigates city methods. Changes require a signed verified protest by the property owner filed with the Department of Assessments by Sept. 23. Democratic officials refused to produce the 1942-43 rolls. Excitement over Italy’s surrender is linked to the death of Mrs. Virgil Birch in a trailer on the Schenectady Amsterdam highway from a heart ailment after hearing surrender news.
