Churches Main Interest Seen As Self Preservation
A national interdenominational consultation in Columbus Ohio found American churches more focused on self preservation than aiding the community. Reports describe churches as fragmented, chiefly reflecting society, with little mission to address local needs and a weak link to youth and the poor. Ecumenical reforms are urged to renew church life and expand outreach despite competition for members and high leadership costs.

When Did Horse Racing Begin and Who Won
History traces horse racing to ancient times with chariot contests in the Iliad and speed contests after horse domestication. In England, organized racing began around 1174 during Henry II’s era, with royal involvement under Richard I and King John. The first annual race emerges in 1512, but earlier events attracted nobility and prize money.
