The October term of the Supreme Court for Rensselaer County convened October 2 and concluded yesterday with 47 cases cleared. Justice Pro tem Hy Runsell presided as William E. presiding official reported the tally.
French notes that 47 cases were disposed of during the term, most by settlement. Tuy Vico Russell lay under consideration as defense counsel argued motions. Walter Malley case and others led to a $85,000 verdict appeal pending. The November County Court session opens November 12, Judge Herbert Hamm presiding. Armistice Day shifts start to November 13.
Odwald's attorney plans to seek retrial or possible discharge after Judge Baum set aside his 194? conviction for negligent homicide in the December death of Robert Ryan. District Attorney Wiley contends the case can be retried due to an invalid juror, while defense counsel argues retrial would violate double jeopardy. A habeas corpus writ and potential appeals to higher courts loom as the process unfolds.
State historian John H. Ginter returned from Brooklyn where he attended a state hotel meeting. A resolution was passed in St. Joseph's rectory to work on the partition of Ireland. Davison of Loudonville were honorably discharged from the Army at Fort Dix over the weekend. Enlisted men from Troy area named are Russell S. Williams, Earth A. Friedel, William M. Wilkolaski, Arthur T. Severance, Christian Thane Jr., Howard Hemenway, Kenneth H. Mingsley.
The Sage A A U P chapter and secretary Dr Geneva Sayre are organizing a forthcoming meeting. They plan to discuss chapter activities and coordinate upcoming events.
Troy Post AmVets names delegates Bernard Mantha Sohn Neuks and ling selected to represent the group at the New York City state convention. Meeting today at 7 PM in rooms 81 Fourth Suit they plan to discuss resolutions, form a women’s auxiliary, and a fundraising drive.
Arthur A. Hillebrandt a Troy car operator filed a voluntary bankruptcy petition in U S District Court at Utica yesterday through attorney Charles I. Meehan. Among 33 creditors listed are William Frear & Co, Pratts Co, United Utility Co, Dr. John B. Connor, Troy Hospital, Sanitarians Hospital, and H W. P. Oleson & Co, all of Troy, with debts ranging from 75 to 117 dollars.
