John L. Halpin of the State Conservation Department says a missing man in the Adirondacks triggered a large search. Twenty forest rangers were deployed in the Newcomb area of Essex County with walkie-talkies as a department plane waited for weather to clear for a flight. Laine was a guest at the Santanoni estate of the late Albany banker Robert C. Pruyn. The deer hunt party included his son Thomas C. Laine, a Princeton Navy V-12 student, and several other Princeton students.
