UPI reports the one room schoolhouse is disappearing, with 200,000 one teacher schools in 1916 dropping to under 60,500 today. Rural consolidation grows, transportation rises to serve outlying districts, and states vary in the share of remaining one room classrooms. Almost 1.5 million children still attend such schools nationwide.
